ACPL-C870-500E Application Field and Working Principle

ACPL-C870-500E is a member of Avago Technologies’ family of Instrumentation, Operational Amplifiers, Buffer Amplifiers, and Linear Amplifiers. It is a single-channel, high-performance, current-mode, low noise amplifier that was primarily designed for medical applications such as electrical stimulation, multi-channel physiological monitoring, electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), and electrocardiography (ECG).

Application Field

The ACPL-C870-500E has a low input-offset voltage, low-input voltage noise, low-input current noise, and low-input capacitance, making it ideal for use in medical applications. Its fast response time makes it ideal for measuring complex signals. Its broad dynamic range (up to 166.7 dB) makes it suitable for use in MRI systems, cardiac applications, and biochemical analysis. The high voltage performance of the ACPL-C870-500E (up to 5.5V) makes it suitable for high-voltage applications such as medical voltages. Working Principle

The ACPL-C870-500E incorporates a high-precision current-mode amplifier, which is based on the classic four-quadrant network. This network is composed of two sets of current sources, two feedback resistors, and four switches. The inputs of the amplifier are fed into the four-quadrant network, which is connected to the output terminals. The current sources are connected to the input voltages through the four-quadrant switches. The four-quadrant switches determine the amount of current that passes through the feedback resistors to produce the desired output currents and voltages.

The ACPL-C870-500E utilizes the N-channel MOSFETs to bring flexibility and efficiency to the current-mode operation.
