Working Principle

The optical isolation of this device is accomplished when an electrical input is applied on the LED side, inducing an equivalent current through the LED. This causes the LED to emit a beam of light that is optically coupled towards the integrated transistor component.

The light that is emitted from the LED activates the photosensitive MOSFET, allowing current to flow from the drain (output) to the source (input) section of the integrated transistor. The amplification of the input signal by this MOSFET allows the high voltage signal on input side to be effectively transferred to the output side. This optically isolated signal is transmitted to the output section of the circuit, providing effective insulation between the input and output circuits.
