Optoisolators - Logic Output is a type of a semiconductor device mainly applied for electrical isolation of the system to avoid obstruction of current flow. This technology is utilized to increase the voltage or current range and contribute to the stability of the system. ACPL-M72T-560E manufacture by Avago Technologies Limited is a sub group of optoisolator products featured with the natural-air insulation separated by infrared light beam, therefore it is utilized for high isolation voltage. The isolation voltage capacity of this product is 2500 Vrms and it is provided a 5kV Surge and 10V Peak Inverse Voltage (PIV).The ACPL-M72T-560E is built based on the concept of phototransistor output, photo coupling, and bipolar transistor which is the main IT component within the device. The optocoupler comprises of an infrared light emitting diode combined with a light sensor which is either a photodetector or a phototransistor. The LED serves as a source of light and the phototransistor as the receiver. The LED is connected to the base of the phototransistor via an infrared light beam to trigger the phototransistor to change its conductivity. The signal from the phototransistor is then amplified in the form of voltage and current into an external circuit to be used in the specific application.Furthermore, ACPL-M72T-560E features a separate ground terminal which allows the logic device and the output circuit to be grounded separately. This is beneficial for applications that require surge, ESD, and noise immunity. The isolator is then driven by the input voltage. Due to the separate grounds, the optoisolator produces its own power supply or operating voltage to operate the logic device which is then measured by the LED current.The ACPL-M72T-560E is most commonly used in applications such as isolating an ideal logic family from effecting electronic sensitive circuits, modem line protection, DC Motor and Brushless DC Motor control, and providing protection for sensitive microprocessor controlled peripherals. This isolator is capable of handling input switching from 0 VDC to 5 VDC. The isolation capability of the M72T-560E can be achieved with its specified logic output voltages under both condition of the current being OFF and ON states.In addition, the ACPL-M72T-560E provides advantages such as low output on-state current consumption, which amounts to 60 mA maximum (at 15 VDC), with an input current of 1mA typical. The device is also available in both through-hole and surface mount packages for versatility and easy mounting.To sum it up, ACPL-M72T-560E is an optoisolator from the Logic Output family. It provides electrical isolation between input and output sources. This couples an infrared LED and phototransistor, which acts as an amplifier. As the signal passes through the LED and phototransistor, the input voltage is changed to a ground isolated output voltage. The ACPL-M72T-560E is most commonly applied for applications such as protection from ESD, noise and surge immunity, modem line protection, DC motor and brushless DC motor control as well as isolating ideal logic family from effecting electronic sensitive circuits. This product not only provides versatility and easy installation but it also offers low output on-state current consumption and high isolation voltage capacity supported by the 5kV Surge and 10V Peak Inverse Voltage.
