Operating Principle

At its heart, the ACPL-P480-560E incorporates Broadcom Avago Technologies’ link isolation technology - a 260 KV/m I/O isolation barrier between two independent sections. A sending side section consisting of an optically coupled LED and a receiving side section consisting of a detector IC.

When the link is commanded ON, current is passed through the LED and a corresponding current flows through the detector IC. This activates the detector’s output transistor, and the output is driven to0V, providing an ON/OFF state.

The ACPL-P480-560E features an isolated supply voltage input of up to 30V. An internal regulator is used to generate the operating voltage for the detector IC When the power supply voltage is less than 6V, then the regulator is not activated and the detector IC’s supply voltage is used directly from the input power supply.

The ACPL-P480-560E is designed to yield a long life even under hard environmental conditions. It operates over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, and meets the high electrical standards of IEC 61000-4-2, Level-2 immunity, and high surge voltage and overvoltage protection.
