ACT30AHT AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers

The ACT30AHT is a highly efficient flyback AC-DC converter operating from universal AC input voltage. It is designed to provide an easy way to build power supplies with a high degree of performance and efficiency. It provides regulation of output voltage and current, and is suitable for use as an offline controller for non-isolated applications such as charging batteries, running DC motors and controlling lighting.The ACT30AHT offers high efficiency, compact size and a simple and low-cost design. It is built on the same basic concept as traditional offline converters, using the same components and control structures but with some key advantages. This includes a gate turn-on technique that reduces conduction losses, eliminating the need for several components and a transformer that provides higher switching frequencies and improved efficiency. The converter also has a wide input voltage range of 85 VAC - 265 VAC, and can operate up to 250 kHz with no changes to the transformer.The ACT30AHT is designed with a single-stage converter topology, which provides a simpler, more reliable design than two-stage converters. The single-stage topology also eliminates the need for special components such as optocouplers and by-pass diodes, thus reducing design costs. The converter is consistently able to meet regulatory requirements and provides very low stand-by power consumption.The ACT30AHT is based on the control principle called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). This principle provides fast and accurate control of the output voltage or current by using a switching technique to control the duty cycle of the transformer primary current. When the AC input voltage is applied to the primary coil of the transformer, the primary current will increase at a rate determined by the closing of the power MOSFET switch. The primary current waveform then rises and falls in accordance with the PWM control waveforms. The voltage developed across the primary winding is the AC input voltage multiplied by the duty cycle of the PWM waveform.When the primary current reaches a certain level, the power MOSFET switch is opened and the energy stored in the transformer\'s primary winding is discharged and transferred to the secondary windings. This process is repeated for every cycle of the AC waveform and the energy is transferred from the primary winding to the secondary windings. The secondary winding voltage is proportional to the primary voltage and is then rectified, filtered, and regulated to form the DC output.In addition to its basic function as an AC-DC converter, the ACT30AHT also offers a number of features designed to improve performance and reliability. These include protections for over-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature, as well as a low-power shutdown mode. The ACT30AHT also offers frequency jittering which helps to reduce electrical noise and improves the efficiency of the converter.The ACT30AHT is an excellent choice for offline AC-DC converters and switchers, and provides very high efficiency, low power consumption and excellent performance in applications such as battery charging, DC motor control, and lighting control.
