AD5320BRM-REEL is a family of 2.7V to 5.5V, serial input, 12-bit single and dual channel digital-to-analog converters (DAC) with an on-chip output amplifier. The device updates on the rising edge of the CS pin, allowing simultaneous updating of both DAC channels, if desired. The AD5320BRM-REEL contains with on-chip gain and rail-to-rail output amplifier. The amplifier can drive a wide range of loads, and provides accurate settling to 0.005%. An internal track-and-hold circuit acquires and holds an analog input (tracks the external reference voltage). The information is then transferred to the DAC when the CS pin goes low.The AD5320BRM-REEL features several different power-down modes that allow the device to remain powered on to maintain the DAC voltage when needed for remote sensing applications, yet significantly reduce power dissipation when not needed. All digital logic inputs are designed to accept TTL- or CMOS-compatible digital signals. The AD5320BRM-REEL supports an internal voltage reference (VREF). An external register, the VREF register, is provided to allow the user to select between the internal and external references. When VREF is set high, the internal reference is enabled, while when it is set low, the external reference is enabled.The AD5320BRM-REEL is offered in a space-saving 8-bump micro SMD package (leadless EP) and is specified for operation over a temperature range of −40°C to +125°C.ApplicationsThe AD5320BRM-REEL is designed for applications requiring low noise low power consumption and accurate buffered outputs. This ADC features excellent DC performance and AC bandwidth, making it ideal for use in a wide range of data acquisition applications such as: temperature sensing and control, motor speed and position control, weighing scales, programmable power supplies and process control systems.Working PrincipleThe AD5320BRM-REEL works by converting digital input data into an analog signal. The 12-bit DAC has a digital input register that holds the data to be converted. When the CS signal goes low, the DAC transfers the data in the input register to the DAC core. The DAC core then uses a series of switches to create an accurate representation of the analog output voltage, which is then amplified by the on-chip amplifier and delivered to the output pin.The AD5320BRM-REEL also features a track and hold circuit. If selected, the track and hold function will enable the converter to measure and hold an analog signal when the CS signal goes low. This can be used to detect changes in an external signal between conversion cycles.The AD5320BRM-REEL also features an on-board temperature sensor. The sensor has its own register which can be read through the serial port. The temperature sensor runs in a periodic mode and can be used for monitoring and adjusting temperatures.ConclusionThe AD5320BRM-REEL is an ideal choice for a wide range of digital to analog conversion tasks.
