Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) are devices that provide analog voltages or currents determined by digital input. The AD5334BRUZ-REEL is an ultra-low power, 10-bit, digital-to-analog converter (DAC), housed in a small package. It has been specifically designed to work in the low voltage and power supply range of 1.8V to 3.6V thus making it suitable for portable applications. It is capable of accurately generating outputs from 0V to the power rails and accepts inputs from 2-bit to 10-bit. Working PrincipleThe AD5334BRUZ-REEL is a low power digital-to-analog converter which translates digital input words into an analog output voltage between 0V and the power rails (1.8V to 3.6V). It is designed to operate from a single 1.8V to 3.6V voltage source and uses a low duty cycle operation which reduces the average power consumption and extends battery life. The device has an on-chip input shift register which allows data to be shifted in serially over a single I/O pin. Data is transferred over a three-wire serial interface using an 8-bit type E (LVCMOS) signal interface. The part is capable of generating a 10-bit precision output and is accurate to 8-bits over a wide temperature range, making it ideal for applications that require high accuracy and low power.
The analog output range is set up by programming a four-bit reference control register. This range determines the full-scale (FS) voltage range and should be programmed to the appropriate level. These bits can be further amplified to generate a wide range of output voltage. The on-chip register can store up to 256 digital words which allow data to be read, written, shifted in and stored in the device digitally. Data can be written to the desired register by simply writing the data to the output latch.
The AD5334BRUZ-REEL has a wide range of power saving features such as power-up default, low operating current, low-voltage supply operation, power-down mode and adjustable voltage output range. These features make the device suitable for low power applications, where the voltage and power output must be accurately controlled.
