Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) include types of devices that are responsible for transforming digital input signals into precise analog output signals. The AD5612BKSZ-2REEL7 DAC is a high performance, low-cost option for voltage mode, voltage output digital-to-analog conversion.
The device combines the advantages of a low-cost, micropower CMOS process with laser trimming to produce precise analog output values over a wide temperature range. The device uses an on-chip temperature- drift correction to achieve an excellent total long-term temperature-drift calibration performance.
The device operates from a single 2.7 V to 5.5 V power supply and is available in a small 8-pin SOIC package. The device is fully specified over the ambient temperature range of – 40°C to + 85°C.
The AD5612BKSZ-2REEL7 can provide up to 8-bit (256) output resolution and offers 10-bit, 12-bit, and 14-bit DAC performance. The device can update the output voltage in 250 μs. The digital interface is compatible with most popular CMOS and TTL logic levels. The device can handle an output voltage of 0.1 V to 5 V and an input frequency of 1 MHz with a total harmonic distortion of -90 dB at 500 kHz.
This highly versatile DAC device is well suited for use in many applications. It can be used to provide direct digital control of the I/O lines of microprocessors, as well as provide data acquisition, instrumentation, and laboratory measurement applications. It can also be used in industrial process control, high-speed analog-to-digital conversion, pressure control, or actuator control.
The AD5612BKSZ-2REEL7 incorporates a high performance on-chip, inherently linear voltage output amplifier capable of driving a wide range of load capacitance.The output has a bipolar output voltage range of ± 5 V and is specified to remain within 0.0005 % of the full-scale value. The amplifier has a very low output voltage offset drift over temperature, typically 0.1 μV/°C.
The working principle of the AD5612BKSZ-2REEL7 is relatively simple. When an output voltage is requested, the MSB (most significant bit)-input voltage data is compared to a reference voltage. The reference voltage is provided by an on-chip bandgap voltage reference with a 0.1 % accuracy. The output voltage of the bandgap reference is typically 1 V and is controlled by a voltage divider network.
The ratio of the MSB-input and reference voltage determines the actual output voltage of the DAC. This ratio is then converted to a binary code that is stored in the internal registers of the DAC. When the code is written to the DAC, the digital-to-analog converter performs the data conversion and the analog output voltage is set accordingly.
