Data Acquisition – Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) has become an integral part of the modern digital electronics world. The AD7575JPZ-REEL (hereinafter referred to as ADJPZ) is a highly compact, low power, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for use in communications systems, industrial process control, instrumentation and biomedical systems. Working Principle

The ADJPZ incorporates a 12-bit successive approximation A/D converter and a multiplexer which enables high speed A/D conversion. The A/D converter uses a 3-conversion cycles, comprising of an “acquisition” phase, a “conversion” phase, and a “reset” phase.

The multiplexer is used to select between different analog input channels. Upon power up and reset, the multiplexer defaults to the first active channel. During the acquisition phase, the data from the selected analog input channel is sampled and stored in the A/D converter’s internal sample and hold circuit.

The conversion phase then begins, in which the internal A/D converter performs a series of “comparisons” between the stored data and an internally generated reference voltage. On each comparison, the internal A/D converter records whether the reference voltage is greater or less than the sampled analog input.

Based on these results, the value of the digital output is determined and the analog input is re-sampled in preparation for the next comparison. Once a full 12-bit resolution is achieved, the internal A/D converter stores the final result as the digital output. After the conversion phase is completed, the internal A/D converter then enters the reset phase and the cycle is repeated.

Apart from the A/D conversion process, the ADJPZ also features an on-chip temperature sensor, a watchdog timer, and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for analog level adjustment.

The ADJPZ is an integrated ADC solution that provides high-speed A/D conversion, precise analog level adjustment, temperature sensing, and watchdog timer in a single package.
