AD7820KP-REEL is a 10-bit analog to digital (A/D) converter, which is suited for low power, high speed, and small size applications. Based on successive approximation technique, the AD7820KP-REEL can simultaneously convert and sample multiple analog signals with a nominal conversion time 100 us and can sample up to 10 times per sec. The breakout board of the AD7820KP-REEL comes with different analog input configurations. At the center of the board are two SMA connectors which carry the common signal references. The two signal inputs to the converter (positive input and the negative input) can be connected to the SMA connectors, or the user can wire the signal inputs to two adjacent breakouts. On the side of the breakout board, two potentiometers can be used to set the gain and the offset. The board also comes with two LEDs which indicate the state of the converter.
The AD7820KP-REEL operates on 5V single power supply, and consumes only 7 mW of power. It has a power down mode, in which the power consumption is reduced to 0.3 mW. The converter has an internal reference voltage of 4.096V and a full-scale input voltage of 2.048V for the 10-bit resolution. This comparison is performed using a comparator. If the input is greater than the mid-code, the MSB is set to 1 and the remaining bits are also set to 1; otherwise, the MSB is set to 0 and the remaining bits are set to 0. The comparison is then repeated for the second bit, and the process continues till all the bits in the digital equivalent information are set.
The AD7820KP-REEL can convert and sample up to 24 channels of analog input simultaneously. Its conversion time is fast (100 us) and it can sample up to 10 times per second. It has a wide supply voltage range of 3.0 to 5.5V and a temperature range of –40°C to +85°C.
