Op amps are wide-gain-bandwidth integrated amplifiers that can provide numerous gains and circuit configurations. These amplifiers are highly integrated, and operate as important building blocks in several analog and mixed-signal applications. The AD8251-EVALZ evaluation board caters to various op amp designs, aiming to provide better performance with ease and reliability. This paper explores the application field and working principle of the AD8251-EVALZ evaluation board. The AD8251-EVALZ evaluation board is suitable for a variety of op amp design configurations. It features the AD8251 op amp, which offers high performance and flexible gain, as well as its associated components. It can offer gains ranging from -192 dB to +192 dB, with a maximum total settling time of 4 µs to 0.1%. The board also ensures wide-band performance, offering an input voltage noise of 1.2 nV/√Hz and a bandwidth of 450 MHz.The AD8251-EVALZ is capable of providing support to multiple control algorithms. It contains 16 individual selectable gain configurations, which allows it to apply different gains with different applications such as Non-Linear System (NLS) and GSM 900MHz signal handling. Also, by controlling the switch it can operate in inverting and non-inverting topology configurations. It can be used for filter circuits and for low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass applications as well. For different gain requirements, the board can switch between a wide range of feedback resistors using its PLD switch.Furthermore, performance beyond the base performance can be achieved with the AD8251-EVALZ. It includes a set of adjustable Ceramic Capacitors (CerCaps) and the adjustment of bias circuit, allowing the operation of the amplifier at higher values of gain and bandwidth. The adjustable CerCap also enables the application of a 12th-order Butterworth filter with selectable poles and with up to 150 Hz of crossover.The AD8251-EVALZ comes with the provision of several interface options as well. The board can accommodate different input voltages and control systems, including S/PDIF output for digital audio and the I2C interface for automated gain control. It includes a wide range of output voltage amplitudes up to 50V with both single-ended and differential outputs. The board also allows the connection with other ICs such as ADC/DACs, analog-to-digital converters and digital-to- analog converters.The AD8251-EVALZ is further integrated with an on-board controller, allowing the selection of different gain levels from the user interface. The controller features a Cortex-M3 processor and allows the user to program the gain settings and to adjust the gain depending on the real-time operation.To sum up, the AD8251-EVALZ is a powerful evaluation board, offering diversified functions with highly flexible gain ranges. It enables high accuracy control over the gain and bandwidth by providing options from adjustable CerCaps and the I2C interface. Its wide input voltage range and multiple output options provide further scope for the exploring various analog circuits.
