AD822ARMZ-R2 (AD822A) is a low-power CMOS operational amplifier (op-amp) with high voltage differential and low noise. It offers high performance with wide temperature range and low supply current requirements in either single or dual supply operation. It is also capable of providing adjustable gain and output offset for differential and single-ended applications. This op-amp is ideal for instrumentation, amplifier, and buffer applications.
Application Field
AD822A is an ideal choice for applications requiring an adjustable gain and output offset. It can be used as an instrumentation amplifier in audio, biomedical, industrial and consumer measurement systems. It can also be used to provide gain and offset in voltage amplification, sine-to-square wave conversion, and AC coupling of capacitive loads. Furthermore, AD822A can provide amplifier, buffer and isolation for high speed data acquisitions (DAC), analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) and high-speed modulators and demodulators.
Working Principle
The AD822A is a low-noise, monolithic CMOS operational amplifier. It consists of two offset-nulling NPN bipolar transistors, an integrated N-channel MOSFET, and two matched-current-transfer amplifiers. It offers excellent performance when compared to BJT op-amps at low supply currents. The relatively low noise of the AD822A allows it to be used in a variety of applications as a low level amplifier and buffer.
The functional design of the op-amp begins with the input stage, which contains two offset-nulling NPN transistors. The input stage allows current to be drawn from either of the two input signals and then redirected to the output node. This current is then converted to a voltage using the integrated N-channel MOSFET and the two matched-current-transfer amplifiers.
The two matched-current-transfer amplifiers contain two pairs of current-mirroring transistors. These transistors operate in either a linear or a saturating region depending on the magnitude of the input signal. If the input signals are too high, then the transistors will operate in the saturating region. The current-mirroring transistors provide the output voltage by redirecting the input current to either the output node or another node.
The output stage of the op-amp consists of two nested emitter-follower transistors. One of the transistors is connected in series with the output terminal while the other is connected in parallel. This allows the output voltage to be adjusted by controlling the gain of the parallel transistor. Finally, the output stage provides the output signal for the entire op-amp.
