AD8426BCPZ-WP Application Field and Working Principle

The AD8426BCPZ-WP is a low power, low noise, high common-mode rejection Ratio (CMRR) and wide bandwidth instrumentation amplifier. It is specified for the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. This amplifier fits into the category of linear amplifiers, instrumentation amplifiers, op amps, and buffer amplifiers.

Application Field

The AD8426BCPZ-WP instrumentation amplifier is suitable for various applications including voltage output data converters, DC error correction, signal conditioning, thermal noise cancellation, detector circuits and bridges, medical instrumentation, and instrumentation. Furthermore, it can be used in high common-mode rejection applications such as differential drive instrumentation amplifiers, and buffered differential summing amplifiers.

Working Principle

The AD8426BCPZ-WP consists of a low impedance active circuit with three amplifiers configured as an instrumentation amplifier. The differential inputs (IN+) and (IN-) are applied to the input stage and the common-mode voltage (VCM) is connected to the amplifier’s inputs through a feedback path. This ensures that the amplifier’s outputs (OUT+) and (OUT-) follow the applied differential input signal and the amplifier does not amplify the common-mode signal.

The output stage of the amplifier is connected to an output voltage amplifier, where the output voltage is a function of the amplified input voltage, taking into account the gain of the amplifier. Typically, the output stage can drive a minimum load of 9.2 ma and is capable of providing up to a maximum of 13.2 ma. The output stage’s common-mode output can also be set to a specific voltage, such as the internally-generated reference voltage, or externally applied voltage that is equal to the common-mode voltage on the input side.

The AD8426BCPZ-WP is a unity-gain instrumentation amplifier that can achieve a gain range of unity up to infinite. The maximum gain of the amplifier is set by two external resistors, making the design and gain range selection easy and flexible. In addition, the low power consumption of the AD8426BCPZ-WP makes it very attractive for battery-powered applications.
