AD8522AR is a highly versatile, high speed 8-bit unipolar digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with an on-chip precision voltage reference and wide supply voltage range. This device is ideal for many data acquisition and process control applications, including fast dynamic signal conversion, frame synchronization, electronic gain control and buffering high resolution digitized signals.

The AD8522AR can be operated from ±5 V single supply and a wide variety of digital logic families with a full-scale output range of 0 V to positive supply. This allows for flexibility when interfacing digital systems with multiple types of analog signal ranging applications.

The device has a high-speed 8-bit DAC with a ±3LSB accuracy grade and a settling time of 26 ns maximum with a 25 mA full-scale output current. The on-chip voltage reference features a ±2 mV accuracy and a 0.4 mV/°C temperature coefficient. The on-chip 40 µA FET input buffer ensures clean operation with low power consumption.

The AD8522AR is based on a single +V power supply and its architecture is adapted to operate with a low power consumption and high-speed operation. To achieve the performance, the AD8522AR uses a switched capacitor ladder network architecture with a built-in gain stage allowing the user to adjust its full-scale output. The device consists of a 40bit DAC, 8bit gain adjust register, 8bit post-scaling register, and a voltage reference.

The DAC works as follows: the 8bit precision data coming from the input is converted to a voltage signal via an on-chip precision voltage reference. The reference voltage is then switched to different capacitors in order to create an analog equivalent of the incoming digital data. The output from the DAC is a mapped approximation of the original digital data. Then the output is scaled to a user-adjustable voltage range and finally transmitted to the output amplifier.
