AD9745-DPG2-EBZ is an Evaluation Board/ Kit that allows user to test the performance of a low-noise, low-power, 14-bit, dual, interleaved 450MSPS digital-to-analog converter (DAC). It is designed by Analog Devices Inc. that manufactures a vast range of analog and digital semiconductor products.This Evaluation Board features the AD9745, a precision DAC that is capable of producing up to 255dB dynamic range and Low DC offset, making it ideal for use in high speed digital systems, such as digital receivers, reconfigurable radio architectures (RRA’s) and other communication applications. The AD9745 features an on-chip precision filter that removes unwanted spurs and minimizes the out-of-band noise that might otherwise degrade the system performance.The AD9745- DP- Evaluation Board Kit has a highly efficient layout that allows users to use the AD9745 with a single-ended or a differential input signal. One board can be used to implement dual-channel digital-to-analog converter systems that can operate from 25MHz to 450 MHz. It also features integrated input buffers, a precision power supply, and a 125 MHz low-jitter clock generator. The board also contains a passive 5-bit D/A attenuator circuit, a low-noise gain-of-two amp, and a balun for providing a single-ended RF output.The Evaluation Board also features an on-board +4.5V or +1.8V power supply for powering the AD9745. Designers can program the AD9745 registers via SPI from a PC using the supplied software and the noIC2 serial connection. The board has been designed to pass the MIL-STD-461 requirements for EMI and RFI. It also works with a wide variety of high-speed interface standards.The working principle of the Evaluation Board can be best understood by examining the basic functionality of a DAC. A DAC is an electronic device that converts a digital signal into an equivalent analog signal. The AD9745 converts digital data into an analog signal by utilizing a successive approximation register (SAR) architecture. In this system, the digital data is first converted to binary codes in an 8-bit array. The first 7 bits are used to generate a triangular voltage waveform and the last bit is used to compare the voltage with the reference voltage from the input signal. If the reference voltage is greater than the binary code, the comparison bit will be set to “1”; otherwise, it will be set to “0”. This process is repeated until the binary code is equal to the input voltage.
