Direct digital synthesis (DDS), also known as frequency synthesis, is a method used to generate arbitrary waveforms in digital and analog circuits. It usually involves a linear feedback shift register (LFSR) coupled with a binary counter. The two main components of a DDS system are the phase accumulator and the digital-to-analog converter (DAC). DDS involves accumulating the products of frequency and phase offset values as determined by a reference frequency and multiplexing successive output word values of the accumulator to the DAC input.
AD9911BCPZ-REEL7, a type of direct digital synthesis application field and working principle, is used to generate precision sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal output waveforms up to 25MHz. It includes an integrated 25MHz Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCXO) and 256 selectable frequency points with accuracy better than 1ppm and amplitude frequency characteristics with better than 0.2 dB variation. The AD9911BCPZ-REEL7 is based on an innovative Digital Cascading Technique (DCT) which provides superior carrier-to-noise ratios, low distortion and ultra-low phase noise. It also has a built-in high-speed 8-bit DAC.
AD9911BCPZ-REEL7 also features programmable pulse outputs and programmable amplifier levels. With its DAC output, the device can generate a variety of non-sinusoidal waveforms, including sine, triangle, sawtooth, square, and noise. It can also be used in RF signal processing applications, such as frequency modulation (FM) and pulse width modulation (PWM).
The AD9911BCPZ-REEL7 application fields and working principle mainly consists of a phase accumulator, a frequency word generator, a control logic block and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The phase accumulator is a 32-bit up-counter, which stores the phase and frequency digital data. Its frequency word generator takes the frequency data from the phase accumulator and converts it into the sinusoidal output of the DDS. In order to achieve digital signal resolution, the frequency word generator also generates two digital words, the binary phase and the digital frequency control words. The control logic block handles the communication between the phase accumulator, the frequency word generator and the ADC. Finally, the ADC converts the analog data from the DDS output into digital signal after the signal is amplified.
