AD9976BCPZ Application Field and Working PrincipleAD9976BCPZ is an integrated optical-to-digital converter designed for a wide range of photometry, radiometry, and color–tuning applications. The device integrates all basic components required for light sensing, such as amplifiers and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), as well as analog-to-digital (AD) conversion circuitry, into a dual-channel integrated sensor that mates to low-cost, widely available optical elements. The resulting device delivers a simple, low-cost interface to optical sensing and high-performance digital-to-analog (DAC) conversion, enabling the implementation of light sensing applications with minimal development time.The AD9976BCPZ is based on the industry-standard four-channel, low-cost ADC format, which incorporates both serial and parallel data transfers. This four-channel architecture allows for the simultaneous sampling of four photosites and the conversion of four photosites into a digital data stream. The dedicated voltage reference for the digital conversion reduces errors due to clock-induced noise, which also reduces power consumption.The AD9976BCPZ includes a voltage reference and an adjustable gain amplifier (AGA) which provides excellent linearity and low noise. The integrated 4-channel MSP structure allows for four simultaneous photodiode measurements. This eliminates the need to multiplex measurements while optimizing the sampling rate. The photosite integration time is adjustable via a single TTL-level control pin, allowing the user to optimize the integration time depending on the application being used. An adjustable internal offset provides a repeatable reference level, allowing for consistent readings across different photosites. The integrated information output channel provides a 10-bit parallel output for each of the four channels. The dual output mode can be used for sample measurement comparisons across channels. The AD9976BCPZ supports standard communication protocols such as I2C and SPI and can be used with a wide range of microcontrollers and system controllers.The AD9976BCPZ incorporates several power-down modes, which further reduces power consumption when not in use. These modes are triggered by a digital signal or on-chip timer and offer very low power consumption when not in active use. Overall, the AD9976BCPZ is ideal for optical sensing applications requiring low power and noise, with high levels of resolution. The integrated features, such as the variable integration time and the adjustable gain amplifier, provide the user with the flexibility to optimize the design for a specific application.
