Analog to digital converters, or ADCs for short, are an integral part of electronics and today’s technology. They are devices which can take an analog signal as input, and convert it into a digital signal which is output. One of these devices is the ADC08100EVM, a evaluation board specifically designed for Texas Instruments’ ADC08100 and equivalent products, which has several uses and is based upon a few important principles that allow it to do its work.
The ADC08100EVM core components consists of four delta-sigma ADCs, low pass filter, 72 linearity clock source and a sequencer. With its variable data rate, the ADC08100EVM allows users to vary the data rate between 100 kHz and 200 kHz. It is also capable of processing 8-bits resolution at a data rate of 200 kHz and 10-bits resolution at a data rate of 300 kHz.
The main use of the ADC08100EVM is to convert analog signals to digital data, although this can be used for different fields. In the medical field, for example, the ADC08100EVM can be used to monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature and heart rate. In the automotive field, it can be used to process data from sensors that measure car fuel levels, tire pressure or engine temperature. This board can also be used in industrial, consumer and audio applications.
To further explain how the ADC08100EVM works, its main components consists of Operational Amplifier (Op-AMP), Analog Comparator, Delta Sigma Modulator, Fast Operational Integrator, and Low Pass Filter, Clocking. The whole system works with multiple stages and systems. To start, the Op-Amp will take the analog signal, and amplifies and condition the signal to the appropriate level for the exchange of the information.
Next, the Analog Comparator will work to compare the analog signal to the reference voltage, so as to reduce the effects of noise signals in the system. The Delta-Sigma Modulator provides data reduction, taking the information from the Comparator, and generating the digital signal output based on that information. This is then sent to the Fast Operational Integrator, which processes the signal as a sequence of pulses into a digital serial data stream. The Low Pass Filter will filter the digital signal to reduce the amount of noise for a cleaner output. Finally, the clock will be used to provide timing and reference for the stages of the process.
The ADC08100EVM evaluation board can be used in many industries as a way to convert information from analog to digital format. It’s based on a variety of components and principles, and allows users to vary the data rate and resolution of the digital data output. With its use in medical, automotive, industrial, consumer and audio applications, the ADC08100EVM is a great tool for any application needing analog to digital conversion.
