The ADC08D1000DEV/NOPB analog-to-digital converter (ADC) evaluation board is a powerful tool for evaluating, verifying, and testing digital architectures. The ADC08D1000DEV/NOPB features two key components: the ADC08D1000-8-bit sigma-delta converter and the NOPB daughter board. The ADC08D1000-8-bit sigma-delta converter is a resolution-establishing, low-power A/D converter chip with a complete on-chip 8-channel, 8-bit analog multiplexer. This chip features a very low power consumption of as little as 3.2 mW. The NOPB daughter board includes SPI, USB, SD, and Ethernet interface provisions that allow the user to tailor the board’s performance to application needs.

This board’s A/D conversion process is first initiated by signals being provided to the analog input pins on the NOPB daughter board. These signals are then sent to the ADC08D1000-8-bit sigma-delta converter for A/D conversion. The converted digital signals are then transmitted to a processing unit through the NOPB daughter board. The ADC08D1000DEV/NOPB uses a three-stage pipeline which includes the signal processing, the digital conversion, and the output stages.

In the signal processing stage, the analog input signals are received by the ADC08D1000-8-bit sigma-delta converter and passed through a 3-level decimation filter to reduce the sampling rate. After this, the signals are amplified and then passed through a low-pass filter to reduce any noise present in the signal. The amplified signals are then passed into the digital conversion stage.

In the digital conversion stage, the analog signals are digitized using a successive approximate analog-to-digital conversion (SAR ADC) architecture. This architecture uses a binary sequence of bits to create a digital representation of the analog signal. The digital representation is then passed through a latch and a multiplexer before it is sent to the output stage.

In the output stage, the digital signals are sent to a processing unit through the NOPB daughter board. Once there, the signals can be stored, analyzed, and output in either analog or digital form. This board can also be used to provide feedback control for applications that require precise analog-to-digital conversions.
