Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are used in a variety of commercial, consumer and industrial applications. The Texas Instruments ADC14061EVAL board provides an ideal evaluation platform for evaluating the performance of an analog to digital converter for specific application requirements. The board is designed to facilitate analog to digital and digital to analog conversion using a PC system and the PC Windows based software, and can be used in various applications including industrial and automotive.
ADC14061EVAL is a low power, low cost, fast sampling rate, high resolution, 12-bit, low noise and low distortion, evaluation board that can be used in multiple applications. It is based on the ADC14061 converter, which is a high-precision, high-performance, single-channel, voltage input, 16-bit digital output, synchronous, logarithmic converter (ADC). This board provides excellent performance for low-cost applications with an operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to + 85 degrees C. The board features an on-board voltage reference, a power supply and a selectable reference and bias output for external sensors.
The ADC14061EVAL board contains a wide range of features to ensure optimal performance. The board is designed to perform the following functions:
- Measurement of analog voltage signals
- Conversion of analog voltage signals to digital values in the range of 8- to 15-bits
- Filtering of digital values to reduce noise or increase accuracy
- Conversion of digital values back to analog signals
- High sampling rate with fast settling time.
The ADC14061EVAL board works by connecting an analog input signal to the board through the 3V BATPWR connector. The board has an on-board voltage reference which is selectable from several different options including a low-voltage precision 2V or 5V reference. The board can accept analog input signals from a variety of sources including thermocouple, resistive temperature device, pressure sensor, or any sensor with an analog output. The voltage reference is used to convert the analog signal to a digital value. The reference voltages are then used to program the gain and offset of the ADC internal registers. The digital value is then converted back to an analog signal using the digital to analog converter on the board.
The ADC14061EVAL board features several filtering options including a high-pass filter, a low-pass filter, and an independent DC blocking filter. These filters are used to reduce noise or increase accuracy in the conversion process. The board also features a selectable reference and bias output for external sensors. This enables the board to be used with various types of sensors such as thermocouples and pressure sensors.
