It works by using a bidirectional silicon avalanche diode (SAD) with a breakdown voltage of 6.25V to protect against overvoltages and transients. When a high voltage transient appears, the SAD starts to conduct and the avalanche current is diverted to the external capacitor, protecting the circuit from component overvoltage. Once the high voltage transient ends, the current stops flowing in the external capacitor, and the device returns to its normal operating state. The low clamping voltage of this device makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, including automotive, consumer electronics, telecommunications, and power converters. This eliminates the need for having multiple device types for different applications and ensures easy integration. Moreover, this device provides an on-state resistance of only 0.004 Ω, ensuring a low power dissipation during normal operation, and the complete device operational temperature range is from -55°C to 125°C.The ADG465BRTZ-REEL7 is also RoHS compliant and has UL/CSA approval, making it suitable for use in a wide variety of electronic equipment.
