The ADM232AARN is an integrated transceiver integrated circuits (IC) manufactured by Analog Devices. The IC is designed to provide an interface between two devices that use the asynchronous serial communication protocol using a very simple and compact wiring arrangement. The ADM232AARN also has two power modes, which allow the user to operate the IC at low power or at enhanced power to support more intensive applications.The transmitter block contains a TTL compatible UART with a 144 byte FIFO buffer which is used to buffer data which is to be sent to the receiver. The FIFO buffer allows the data to be stored and then transmitted in small packets which reduces the amount of overhead and noise on the bus.The receiver block contains a TTL compatible UART which is used to receive data from the transmitter. The input buffer ensures the data is valid before being stored in the FIFO buffer. Once the data has been received, it is sent to the output buffer to be stored in memory or used to control an output/LED.The serial interface provides a simple and effective means for connecting the IC to a host device. The interface provides bidirectional communication between two devices and supports both standard RS-232 and TTL protocols.The working principle of the IC is quite simple. Data is stored in the FIFO buffer and is then sent asynchronously between two devices using the serial interface. When the data has been transmitted successfully, the receiver is then able to store and process the data before sending it back to the transmitter.The ADM232AARN is an excellent choice for many asynchronous serial communication applications, particularly those which require low power and a small footprint.
