The ADM3073EARZ is a family of dual-channel isolated high speed RS-485 transceivers featuring an integrated isolated power supply that eliminates the need for an external voltage converter. It has a high common mode integrity in systems with a wide power supply range and terminal surge immunity up to 5kV. The integrated isolated power supply also provides an extended battery life span to help reduce system power consumption. The ADM3073EARZ family is the preferred solution when system robustness, flexibility and power efficiency are requirements.

The ADM3073EARZ are designed for balanced data transmission in applications such as data communication, networking, industrial automation, building automation and automotive applications. They are particularly well suited for applications requiring fast reliable data transmission over medium to long cable lengths. They possess excellent noise immunity, high electromagnetic interference protection and robustness against ESD spikes. The device provides high common mode range, allowing signal transmission over long cable lengths while providing fast data reception.

Data is transferred between RS-485 devices via two balanced data lines. The two isolated power supply pins are used to power the driver and the receiver, an isolation capacitor is normally used to bridge the two supplies together. This enables the receiver to be powered from the same source as the driver. The transmitter is disabled if its input voltage is below 4V, this helps reduce power consumption when the device is not being actively used.

The ADM3073EARZ includes two data channels, one for transmitting RS-485 data and the other for receiving it. The transmitter data input is a differential line which is compared against the received data on the other channel. Data is passed between the transmitter and receiver lines after an auto-directional control function determines, which of the two is idle and transmitting data. As the output is a differential line it can thrive in noisy environments.

The ADM3073EARZ is designed for use in a 3-wire, half-duplex system. It offers a wide common mode output range of up to (VCC+15V). The internal protection circuitry blocks any over-voltage and short-circuits situations to ensure long lasting and stable operation. The device offers a low power consumption solution, with a maximum dissipated power of 4.2 mW at 5V, making it well suited for small size and low power systems.

It is built to support speeds up to 150 kbps and has a working temperature range from −40 °C to +85°C, making it an ideal choice for industrial automation, building automation, monitoring, and power line communication applications. The device also has high surge immunity protections up to 5kV, making it reliable in extreme electrical environments.
