The ADM3310EACPZ-REEL is an automotive-grade, monolithic, RS-485 transceiver designed to provide the physical link between RS485-compliant Exchange Link Systems (ELS). It is used in automotive applications that require robust, reliable, low-power operation, including signaling networks, in-vehicle communication protocols and control systems.

The ADM3310EACPZ-REEL features a two-wire, bidirectional data transfer architecture, which is asymmetrical compared to the traditional three-wire, unidirectional RS-485 transceivers. This architecture inherently provides power savings when used in applications with low data rates, and reduced radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) compared to traditional unidirectional transceivers.

The ADM3310EACPZ-REEL is based on the classic principle of voltage level conversion (VLC). The transceiver interfaces the logic and system levels by converting differential voltages between the logic and the system. The on-chip comparator detects and compares the voltage difference between the Logic and System side by comparing it to the level set by the Schmitt trigger or external comparator. When the Schmitt trigger voltage level is exceeded, the signal is flipped and the data is then transmitted to the respective side.

The device is designed to interoperate with other devices operating in the same RS-485 network. It can be used in applications running at data rates up to 20 Mbps and has slew rate control that allows for better signal integrity. The ADM3310EACPZ-REEL also features an integrated flow control interface, which allows it to easily interface with flow-controlled devices, such as publicly available PLCs.

The device operates over a wide temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees Celsius and is supplied in a very small 2mm x 2mm DFN package that is ideal for space-constrained applications. It is also lead (Pb)-free and RoHS compliant.
