ADP1610-EVALZ is an evaluation board used for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS applications. It is a very capable board which can provide up to 1.6A output current. The evaluation board has been designed with several design criteria in mind such as high efficiency, low audible noise, and improved reliability.
The ADP1610-EVALZ evaluation board is designed to be used with a wide variety of DC/DC & AC/DC converter designs. It is ideal for testing switching converters in a variety of applications such as cellular phone charger applications, white good chargers, other equipment applications, and automotive applications. The evaluation board has been designed to ensure robust operation in harsh conditions thanks to its on-board features like EMI filtering, thermal protection, and a built-in load sharing circuit.
The ADP1610-EVALZ evaluation board features efficient power conversion with wide input voltage range (8-31 VDC). The board also has a variable output voltage range of 1.2V-25V with an external voltage or current setting. The integrated ORing diodes provides the ability to parallel multiple converters for additional current output. At the heart of the ADP1610-EVALZ evaluation board is a highly integrated monolithic IC designed for relatively high current DC/DC & AC/DC SMPS applications. The device integrates a switching controller, low RDS(on) power MOSFET, over temperature protection, adjustable current limit, adjustable voltage limit, and thermal shutdown in a single package. The integrated PSR (Primary Side Regulation) is also supported to give maximum flexibility in terms of output current and voltage range.
The switching control circuit works on a cycle-by-cycle current limit basis. The circuit senses the current sense shift signal from the low side power MOSFET and calculates both peak and average current on the primary side. The peak current limit is adjusted using the current sense resistor and the average current limit is adjusted using the external voltage or current setting. Once the current limit has been reached, the controller quickly shuts off the MOSFET current path. The controller also has integrated over-temperature protection.
