ADP1871-0.3-EVALZ is an evaluation board for offline DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS (switch mode power supply), designed for low power applications. It has a switching frequency of 500 kHz and is built on a flexible substrate using a BGA-packaged switching current regulator IC. The board is able to supply additional current and thermal protection and can achieve a high conversion efficiency up to 90%.
ADP1871-0.3-EVALZ is suitable for powering small to medium AC/DC or DC/DC switching mode power supplies, such as consumer and automotive power adapters, as well as other general-purpose applications. The board can operate with input voltages from 6 V to 36 V and can output up to 3 A at up to 24V. The board also has an integrated protection circuit to protect against overcurrent, overload and short circuit conditions.
The board consists of a power MOSFET, an inductor, and an IC designed specifically to perform current mode control of the switching regulator. The IC is equipped with an adaptive gate driver and a dual comparative mode to simplify current setup and control. It has an adjustable switching frequency of up to 500 kHz, and it can output up to 3A with a conversion efficiency of up to 90%. The IC also includes slew rate control, soft-start and thermal protection features.
The evaluation board also includes an LCD display with an easy to use control panel for setting and monitoring the current, voltage and frequency of the switching regulator. It is powered by an external 5V USB power supply, making it easy to power up and test the regulator. The LCD display will show the current output, voltage output, and frequency of the switching regulator.
To ensure that the board is reliable and efficient for different load conditions, the system utilizes a real-time protection system through a MOSFET with a low RDSON value. This MOSFET features low conduction losses, a high frequency switching capability and high transient performance. An on-board XRDC2100 reset circuit provides protection against power mismanagement and over-voltage events through its adaptive detection circuit.
The board is designed to be used in both commercial and industrial applications where efficiency, reliability and performance are important. Additionally, it provides a wide range of reliable protection against excessive load, over-voltage, over-temperature and mismanagement of current. It is ideal for various applications which can benefit from efficient, small to medium, switch mode power supplies.
