ADP1872-0.3-EVALZ Application Field and Working Principle

The ADP1872-0.3-EVALZ evaluation board dc/dc & ac/dc (off-line) SMPS is an offline switch-mode power supply evaluation board designed for evaluating the ADP1872 switching controller, an on-off controller with adjustable current limit. The device features a constant voltage (CV) operating mode and a constant current (CC) operating mode, each of which are controlled through external voltage references. This evaluation board is designed to meet the requirements of desktop computer, server, and broadcast and communications system applications.The ADP1872-0.3-EVALZ evaluation board is designed to operate in the range of 1 to 18 V and features a maximum output current of 0.3A. The board is designed to provide a safe and effective means of evaluating and testing the ADP1872 controller in a wide variety of applications. The board supports up to four input modes including AC, DC, high voltage DC (HV DC), and pulse width modulation (PWM) input modes. The board also provides a built-in programmable power monitor to monitor the board’s power consumption for more efficient operation.The ADP1872-0.3-EVALZ comes with a preset voltage reference to provide accurate voltage setting and the ability to adjust the voltage reference through external jumper connections. Once the board is powered up, the voltage reference can be attached to the input voltage and the output voltage can be adjusted according to the reference voltage provided by the vision. The board also has a control interface for the current-limiting feature which can be configured through external jumper settings.The ADP1872-0.3-EVALZ can be used with a variety of power supply architectures, including buck, boost, bridge rectifier, and SEPIC topologies. The board includes an LED indicator for indicating the ON/OFF state of the device and allows fine control of the on/off switching characteristics through external resistor and capacitor selection.The working principle of the ADP1872-0.3-EVALZ evaluation board is based on its embedded controller, the ADP1872 switching controller. The controller is a high-efficiency, on-off control device that is capable of providing a constant voltage regulation operation. The constant voltage regulation is realized through its feedback control technique, where the output voltage is monitored by the controller using its internal voltage reference and is adjusted according to the provided reference voltage.
