The ADP2120-EVALZ Evaluation Board is an off-line, DC/DC & AC/DC switch mode power supply dedicated to providing high power supply conversion efficiency and power regulation performance in space-constrained applications.

The evaluation board can be used for personal computer, laptop, consumer electronics, ITE (industrial, instrumentation and telecom equipment), automotive and many other applications. It has a maximum power delivery of 2 W when input voltage is 4.5 – 20 V (or 3 V – 32 V) and output voltage ranges from 3 V to 15 V.

The ADP2120-EVALZ utilizes a high performance, low quiescent current IC to efficiently step-down a wide input voltage range to a wide adjustable output voltage. It features 0.5 V output voltage accuracy over line and load variations (output power up to 2 W) with minimal external components. The evaluation board has protection circuitry for over temperature, output current limit, and short-circuit protection.

The core of the ADP2120-EVALZ is built around the ADP2120 IC. This integrated circuit integrates a high voltage buck regulator, an Error Amplifier with ±2% voltage accuracy and over temperature protection. This integrated circuit is highly efficient, providing up to 86% efficiency at 4Vin to 5Vout condition.

The power switch is an N-Channel MOSFET. It regulates the current to the output load with high efficiency and low power consumption. The MOSFET is enabled or disabled through the enable pin of the IC. The device also has a power good signal which is detected by the IC when the output voltage is within ±5% of the programmed output voltage. The device is protected from short circuits by configurable current limit algorithm.

In addition, the IC features an Internal Bootstrap Circuit. This bootstrap circuit generates a negative voltage to create the required gate voltage for the power MOSFET. The boost capacitor must be used to keep the gate voltage high enough to ensure proper turn-on of the MOSFET.

The ADP2120-EVALZ Evaluation board employs high efficiency synchronous rectification along with careful circuit component selections to achieve high efficiency over the complete operating input voltage range and load regulation range. The device also features an on-board power-on/off switch and a trim pot for fine adjustment of the output voltage, allowing the user to adjust the output voltage as needed.

The ADP2120-EVALZ Evaluation Board has been extensively tested to ensure performance and reliability through various environmental conditions and applications. It is an excellent evaluation solution for high performance, low power, and space-limited applications.
