ADP5020CP-EVALZ is a ready-to-use evaluation board designed for evaluating digital power supply solutions. The board provides a fully featured and integrated platform specifically tailored for testing through-hole and surface-mount solutions of motor and lighting power supplies. The board is designed for applications that require power savings and improved efficiency in both low power and high power applications.
The ADP5020CP-EVALZ board is a mixed signal power supply design comprised of a Digital Power Management Controller (DMPC) and Power Factor Reference (PFA). The DPMC integrates both power factor correction and digital control operations. The PFA provides comprehensive active power factor correction (APFC) and passive harmonic filtering for efficient powerfactor correction. The integrated solution allows for high efficiency designs with minimum external components.
The board consists of a 3-stage Power Factor Correction (PFC) followed by an active boost control stage. The initial PFC stage uses a dual-switch topology with a blocking synchronous rectifier (BSR) to reduce losses in the rectifier switch. Active Boost Control (ABC) is used to provide near unity power factor and improved power conversion efficiency. The power factor is adjustable from 0.7 to 0.9. The bias voltage of the PFC stage is provided by a micropower voltage reference.
The Digital Power Management Controller (DPMC) helps develop high efficiency and reliable power systems. The integrated controller provides a digital controller with an inbuilt ProTool 3.10 software package for configuration and performance monitoring. It is designed to streamline development and reduce power conversion costs. Its features include flexible output monitoring, programmable power The output, parameter memory, cycle-by-cycle current limiting and configurable operating parameters.
The ADP5020CP-EVALZ board works on a number of different principles. First, it uses active techniques to condition and convert the input power to a controlled sinusoidal power, which is then used to supply the load through the output stage. The active potential monitoring circuit detects the output voltage level of the output stage, and if the voltage exceeds a certain value, the controller will immediately reduce the input power through the active feedback loop.
The board also incorporates a safety and reliability features such as overload protection, over current protection, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, soft start and input power control. It also includes a testing tool, which includes low-capacitance evaluation, feed-back loop evaluation, comparison between the input and output waveform, stress testing and converter efficiency testing.
In addition, the board features a real-time monitoring system which allows for monitoring of the power efficiency, load current, switching frequency, etc. ADP5020CP-EVALZ board is designed for efficient AC-DC & DC-DC system conversions, and is suitable for use in a variety of applications including automotive, consumer, medical, industrial, and commercial applications.
