The general circuit and overall working principle of ADR293ERZ is shown in Figure 1. The PMIC comprises of a band-gap reference, a temperature sensing circuit, a temperature compensation setup, an amplifier, an external divider, a comparator, a D-type latch, and three compensation capacitors.
- Band gap reference: It is the main building block of the reference. This provides the 1.224V reference voltage, which is affected by ambient temperature. To compensate this, ADR293ERZ utilizes a temperature compensation circuit.
- Temperature sensing, temperature compensation: To compensate the reference voltage, ADR293ERZ has a built-in temperature sensor and a temperature compensation circuit. The temperature sensor senses the temperature of the environment and sends the temperature information to the temperature compensation circuit. This circuit uses the temperature information to adjust the output reference voltage of the bandgap reference.
- Amplifier, divider and comparator: These components further amplify, divide, and compare the voltage level of the output of the bandgap reference and comparator to ensure accuracy of the reference voltage.
- D-latch: The D-latch is used to control the comparator. It ensures that the output voltage of the reference is within the required level.
- Compensation capacitors: These three on-chip compensation capacitors adjust the output voltage to the desired level. The compensation capacitors allow the output voltage of the reference to remain stable under varying temperature conditions.
ADR293ERZ is used in a variety of applications to improve upon the accuracy and stability of voltage references. It is widely used in automotive applications such as airbags, acceleration and steering systems, cruise control, automatic transmission, and antilock brakes; as well as in industrial applications like digital controllers and motor drives.
