The ADS7842E is a high-resolution, 12 bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for use in data acquisition systems and embedded applications. Its low-power consumption and high accuracy make it ideal for applications where battery-powered systems are needed. The ADS7842E provides automated conversion of analog signals to 12-bit digital values in single- or semi-dual-conversion architectures. The unique single-conversion architecture of the ADS7842E results in reduced power consumption, making it suitable for portable and battery-powered applications.

The ADS7842E operates with a single 2.5V or 3V supply. It features low power consumption, with a typical power consumption of only 100µA/conversion. The digital output is a 12-bit twos complement value including sign, ranging from -2048 to +2047. The ADS7842E also features an internal reference of 1.2V. This allows for a wide range ofinputs, from 0V to 4V.

The ADS7842E supports a range of sample rates from 4 samples/s to 80 samples/s, depending on the configuration of the serial peripheral interface (SPI). The ADS7842E features an on-chip programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with gains of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64. The PGA is adjustable by internal registers, enabling the user to adjust the gain without needing to fully reconfigure the device.

The ADS7842E also features a programmable offset register. This register allows the user to manually adjust the offset applied to the signal prior to being digitized. This register can be used to improve the accuracy of the signal conversion when measuring signals with small amplitude and/or Offset. The programmable offset register can also be used to fine-tune the signal conversion accuracy.
