Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are an important component of the technology industry and are required to convert signals from the analog domain to the digital domain. The ADS8325EVM-PDK (ADS8325 Evaluation Module – Process Development Kit) is a sophisticated evaluation board used in the conversion of analog signals into their digital equivalents. It consists of a 16-bit, 8-channel Analog-to-Digital converter (ADC) designed in an integrated analog front end and data encoder.

The module also supports fast, simultaneous sampling of multiple analog input signals with simultaneous conversion of multiple analog inputs. Moreover, the analog front-end supports programmable offset and gain scaling, allowing for adjustable measurement range and resolution. The embedded analog-to-digital converter can sample at up to 1.8V/µs with a SNR of over 85dB.
The post-conversion data processor contains embedded support for frame synchronization, data rate control, error detection and correction and serial to parallel data conversion. Furthermore, the user can configure the data processor to operate in one of four modes; mode1 (8-bit resolution, 8-byte serial input, 2-bytes FIFO), mode2 (12-bit resolution, 8-byte serial input, 2-bytes FIFO), mode3 (12-bit resolution, 16-byte serial input, 4-bytes FIFO) and, mode4 (16-bit resolution, 16-byte serial input, 4-bytes FIFO).
The ADS8325EVM-PDK is also equipped with a robust set of digital filters which support digital filtering of the input signals. These digital filters can be configured to reduce high-frequency noise or to eliminate medium-frequency noise. Additionally, the digital filters have configurable parameters which allow for fine-tuning of the digital filters to improve the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
The evaluation board also features a comprehensive set of diagnostic tools which include a serial EEPROM to store data, access and program registers, monitor the internal temperature of the board and measure the on-board power supply. Additionally, the on-board evaluation toolkit offers a serial datalink to enable direct communication with the external development system without the need for additional hardware. Lastly, the integrated emulator emulator allows the board to be used as an evaluation and development platform.
