The ADVFC32KN is a regulated fractional to fractional or fractional to integer step-down converter and optimized for low power applications requiring a high power density. It uses a unique buck-boost architecture that is capable of providing a high voltage conversion ratio and delivering up to 8A of output current. It is ideally suited for a variety of automotive, industrial, and consumer related applications including, but not limited to, Bluetooth, PDAs, and GPS systems.
The ADVFC32KN operates in three modes of operation: mode 0, 1, and 2. In mode 0, the device functions as a buck-boost converter and the output voltage is regulated between the adaptive voltage range. In mode 1, the output voltage is regulated between the adaptive voltage range, but the device operates as a 2/3 step-down converter. And in mode 2, the output voltage is controlled by the regulation feedback pin or VIN, and the step-down converter ratio is increased to 4/5. The ADVFC32KN can also be configured to either linear or PWM mode.
In order to control the output voltage and current, the ADVFC32KN uses voltage mode control. The input voltage (VIN) is sampled by the device and used to set the output voltage through a feedback loop. This feedback loop can also be used to dynamically adjust the output voltage as needed, allowing the device to perform more efficiently in a wide range of load conditions.
