AEDM-5810-A13 Working Principle

The AEDM-5810-A13 works on the principle of incremental type rotary encoder, the rotating shaft is connected to a coded disc, on the disc is a spiral pattern. The pattern is made up numbers that correspond to discrete positions of the encoder’s output. A disc with a total of 1000 division is read by two sensor heads in conjunction with a rotating disc which has a coating with an opaque / reflective pattern. The two sensors can be photo-optice or capacitive.

One sensor head will create the A signal (Channel A) as the disc turns past the gap, which is then compared to the B signal (Channel B), which is created on the other half of the disc. As this happens a 0 or a 1 is generated each time a white or black sector passes the sensor head. When the signal is regular, each A wave will have a corresponding B wave which will complete one full cycle. These A/B channels output the binary signal.

The AEDM-5810-A13 encoder uses electrical pulse signals to detect the rotary speed and reverse rotation of the rotating shaft.
