Working Principle

The AEV05F48 is a synchronous buck converter, meaning it steps down voltage by synchronously switching a pair of transistors and stores energy in an inductor when the transistors switch on. When the transistors switch off, energy stored in the inductor is then released to the output load. This, combined with an internal control loop, maintains a constant output with minimum ripple for a wide range of input and output voltages.

Specifically, the AEV05F48 has two sets of MOSFETs connected in a back-to-back configuration, an inductor, and an output capacitor for stability. A voltage sense amplifier is used to compare the input voltage to the internal reference. The error signal is then amplified and then is sent to the Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) to control the duty cycle of the MOSFETs. The higher the duty cycle, the more energy is supplied to the output capacitor. The output capacitor also helps to reduce voltage related transients.

The AEV05F48 also features protection functions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, and reverse polarity. The device also has a thermal shutdown system that will shut off the device when the junction temperature is over 125°C.
