AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuses
The AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuses, also known as Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses, are largely used in electronic safety applications. These types of fuses provide an added layer of protection for electronic devices, ranging from consumer electronics to industrial equipment. This fuse has a self-restoring action in the event of an overload, providing reliable secondary overload protection. By utilizing thermally activated PTC elements, the AHS120-2 operates in a predictable manner each and every time, providing a precise and reliable form of electronic device protection.
The AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuse has a high rated current capacity, with a maximum rated current of 20 A at a rated temperature of 85°C for a time of 1 hour. After this overload has been switched off, the fuse will automatically reset and allow the current to flow again to the connected device. It is also designed for current-limiting protection with its internal energy dissipation being higher than 1 mJ/A. Due to this, the AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuse makes it ideal for power supply filter and surge protection.
The AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuses generally has four pins per unit and is made up of two distinct pieces, a thermally activated PTC element and a copper alloy substrate. The PTC element is soft-colored and is typically encased within a metal sleeve, making it simpler to install in a variety of electronic circuits. The oblong-shaped copper substrate, on the other hand, is fitted on top of the PTC element and acts as a heat sink to dissipate the energy from the overload current. The copper substrate also has grooved edges to aid in mechanical retention of the fuse.
When subjected to a safe load, the AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuse will remain in its non-conductive state. However, in the event of an overload, the link between the PTC element and the copper substrate gets disrupted and the device reacts by going into its conductive state. As the temperature rises, the PTC element will expand and causes an edge-to-edge contact between the substrate and PTC element. This, in turn, will cause a switch-like action, allowing the energy to dissipate in the form of heat throughout the entire link. As the temperature returns to normal, the switch-like action reverses and the PTC element returns into its original, non-conductive state. This resets the device and returns the device to its original, safe condition.
AHS120-2 PTC Resettable Fuses are commonly used in power supplies an electronics, such as computers, fax machines, and laser printers, and in other electronic appliances, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines. These fuses are ideal for surge protection in a variety of electronic systems, both consumer and industrial, as they are able to provide superior energy dissipation. Additionally, these fuses require no special maintenance or testing methodology and are relatively inexpensive and cost-effective.
