Fixed Inductors

Inductors are electrical components used in a variety of applications, including communications, control systems, signal conditioning, measuring, and testing. An inductor, also known as a coil or choke, acts as a “gatekeeper” for alternating current (AC), allowing it to flow through when the voltage is at the prescribed level, and restricting it when it is not. The most common type of inductor is the fixed inductor/coil, which does not vary in its reactance as the frequency of the applied voltage changes. The AIUR-16-221K fixed inductor is a typical example.

The AIUR-16-221K is a surface mount fixed inductor is rated at 10.5-22 mH, rated for a maximum DC current of 482mA in either a horizontal or vertical orientation, and it has a limiting DC resistant of 0.84 ohms. It is designed with a precision tolerance of up to +20%/-20% and its inductance is temperature dependent. It is available in a variety of footprints, including the 2070 package, which uses an 1812 or similar size. As a surface mountable component, it can easily be used in fixed inductor applications such as power supplies, filters, couplers, and RF choke coils for protection of sensitive circuits, as well as being useful in more advanced applications where its low prfile footprint is advantageous.

The working principle of a fixed inductor is based on Faraday\'s law of electromagnetic induction. When current flows through a coil, it creates a magnetic field. This magnetic field induces an electromotive force (EMF) in the coil according to Faraday\'s law. This EMF opposes any change in the current with a voltage, which is known as inductance. An inductor is a device that stores energy in its magnetic field, which can then be used to regulate the voltage and current in an electronic circuit.

The AIUR-16-221K fixed inductor has a maximum operating temperature range of -55 to +125°C and is capable of handling a peak current of up to 3.9A. Its compact footprint makes it ideal for use in high-density, height-restricted applications, and its low DCR makes it appealing for use in power circuitry. Its wide tolerance range makes it suitable for a wide range of applications, and its wide temperature range means it will remain stable over a wide range of operating temperatures.
