DC-DC converters provide power conversion from the DC voltage on one side to a different form of DC voltage on the other side. The most common type of DC-DC converter is the switch-mode power supply (SMPS). The AK1301-7R is a switch-mode step down DC-DC converter that provides non-isolated buck circuit power conversion. The working principle of AK1301-7R is based on a switch-mode DC-DC conversion process. First, an external high-frequency DC-DC converter circuit is created, which includes a chopper, a power factor correction capacitor, an inductor, a diode, and an output filter capacitor. The chopper, also known as a switch, is connected to the power supply and can be operated in one of two states, either in a Pass Mode or a Stop Mode. In the Pass Mode, the chopper is open and current is transferred to the load circuit. In the Stop Mode, the chopper is closed and no current is transferred to the load circuit. A duty cycle control circuit is used to control the frequency and duration of the chopper switching. This duty cycle control circuit is determined by the load current, output voltage, and other parameters.

When the chopper is in a Pass Mode, current from the power supply will pass through the inductor, and a voltage is created on the output capacitor at the same time. When the chopper switches to the Stop Mode, the inductor stores the electric energy and forces it to the load. The output voltage is determined by the ratio of the on time of the chopper to the off time of the chopper. The AK1301-7R uses this principle to regulate the output voltage and provide a stable voltage to the load.
