The two ferrules are connected with a cylindrical SC (subscriber Connector) adapter that is inserted into the sleeve of the ALWL-LCD ferrule. The twist-lock feature of the ALWL-LCD ensures that the connection is secure and stable by locking the two LC ferrules together.

The ALWL-LCD connector is usually employed in a variety of applications that involve high-speed data transfer such as 10-Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and wide area networks (WANs). First, the connector must be locked into position by engaging the twist-lock feature. This is achieved by inserting the SC adapter into the sleeve of one of the LC ferrules, and then turning the adapter clockwise until it locks into place, securely connecting the two ferrules. Once the two ferrules are locked into place, the optical fiber in each ferrule is aligned into position. This is done through a technique called “end-face finishing”, which involves carefully and precisely polishing the ferrule’s end-face to ensure that the two fibers are properly aligned in the center of the ferrule. Finally, a vacuum is created inside the connector to ensure that the connection is secure and free of air bubbles.
