AM26S10CDRG4 Application Field and Working PrincipleThe AM26S10CDRG4 is an octal line-receive-driver integrated circuit (IC) device used to complement the AM26C32 line receiver. The receiver and driver combination provides a level-shifting RS-232 interface for data transmission with baud rates up to 250 kb/s. This is a CMOS device with superior low-power characteristics and a wide operating temperature range. It is widely used in applications such as computers, industrial automation and multimedia products. The AM26S10CDRG4 consists of eight transmitters (drivers) and eight receivers, which are organized into four sets. Each set has 20 pins, encapsulated in a 20-pin quad flat-pack (QFP) package. There are eight separate inputs - one input per pin - that allow parallel data transmission. Each of the signals are TTL logic-compatible, allowing a data transmission range up to 250 kb/s. The voltage at each of the eight inputs ranges from 0V to 5V. A voltage greater than 4V is interpreted as a high level and a voltage lower than 0.5V is interpreted as a low level. When an input voltage is low, the AM26S10CDRG4 transmits a \'1\' signal. Conversely, when an input voltage is high, the transmitter generates a \'0\' signal. This driver has both an open-collector output, which allows for data transmission to the AM26C32 and short-circuit protection in the form of a 1k resistor. The internal protection circuit prevents damage from short-circuiting even in the case of an input voltage exceeding the power supply voltage.The AM26S10CDRG4 comes with two pairs of outputs for each pin in a totem-pole configuration that can be connected to either the power supply or a ground. The driver complies with the EN55022 Class A emission standard. This means that when the driver is connected to external devices, the power supply voltage must not exceed 28 volts. Once the second output is connected to the power supply voltage, it is possible to control the output duty cycle directly with the input duty cycle.The AM26S10CDRG4 is designed to be used in combination with an AM26C32 line receiver. The receiver has eight separate inputs and each of these accepts a binary signal of up to 250 kb/s. The receiver will then combine the signals into a single, converted serial data stream.
