The AMBA340205 is a type of optical motion sensor, which is capable of detecting and measuring the displacement of a target object within a given range and field of view. It consists of two interchanging components, a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter emits an invisible light pulse and when it hits a target object, it is reflected back to the receiver. The distance of the target will be calculated based on the time elapsed between the transmission and the reception of the light pulse.

Working Principle

When the AMBA340205 is in operation, it uses its transmitter to generate an infrared beam and emit it towards the target object. This light pulse is then reflected back to the AMBA340205’s receiver and is measured in terms of the time delay between when it is sent to its target object to when it is received back by the receiver of the AMBA340205. The calculation of the actual distance is based on the equation of time which states that the time (t) taken by the light pulse to travel from the AMBA340205’s transmitter to its target object at a given velocity equals the distance (d) divided by the velocity (v). In other words, d = t × v.

Applications

The AMBA340205 optical motion sensor is mainly used in defense and security applications.

• It can be used in target acquisition and tracking systems, wherein the target is detected and tracked based on the reflected light pulses.
• It is also employed in obstacle detection and collision avoidance systems wherein the AMBA340205 warns of any incoming objects that might collide with the system.
• In a similar fashion, it can be used in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) collision avoidance systems. In UAVs, the AMBA340205 is mounted on the hull and constantly scan the surroundings for any obstacles which are detected and avoided.
• It can also be utilized in aircraft landing system where the distance of the aircraft from the airport is measured accurately using the AMBA340205.
