The PCU contains an integrated 8-bit A/D converter with a sampling frequency of up to 5MHz while the PEU contains a programmable output-generation stage that is responsible for the high accuracy of the device.

The PCU is responsible for the first stage of the analog-to-digital conversion and performs the task of converting the input signal into a digital format. During this stage, the PCU amplifies and attenuates the input signal to match the input range of the 8-bit A/D converter. It also includes low-noise input channels with built-in anti-alias filters.

The PEU performs the second stage of the analog-to-digital conversion, which is responsible for the high accuracy of the conversion. This is accomplished by the use of a programmable output-generation stage. This stage includes an 8-bit D/A converter, digital signal‑conditioning components, and analog output-conditioning components. The digital signal‑conditioning components are responsible for adjusting the output of the A/D converter to the ideal center value of the PEU. The analog output-conditioning components provide a low-noise, stable output.

The AMC1304L05DW also includes several protective features designed to ensure safe and reliable operation. These include overvoltage, overcurrent, and overhanging protection, ESD protection, and a built-in watchdog timer.
