AMN21112

Optical motion sensors measure motion by detecting changes in the image projected on the detector element. The AMN21112 is a solid-state, infrared motion sensor consisting of a non-contact infrared sensor with built-in signal conditioning electronics.

The AMN21112 is an all-in-one motion detector device packaged in a miniature TO-92 can housing. It incorporates a single photodiode, serving as the detector element, and a fixed-slope integrated signal conditioning circuit, and is designed to replace traditional motion sensors that use complex control circuit. The voltage generated by the sensor is proportional to the amount of infrared radiation that falls on the active area. The amplitude and phase of the voltage generated depend exclusively upon the amount of infrared radiation on the photodiode and the design of the integrated analog signal conditioning circuit.

The presence of motion is detected by measuring the levels of infrared radiation that fall on the active area. When motion is detected, the integrated signal conditioning circuit will adjust the output voltage accordingly. The output voltage is determined by the amount of infrared radiation measured at a fixed frequency. The frequency is adjustable via the integrated potentiometer, thus allowing for a more sensitive response at a given frequency.
