The disk contains two tracks of information, referred to as “Teeth” and “Slots”. Each tooth will generate a pulse when it passes the sensor. The Slot track then adds additional alteration in the signal. The pulses from both the teeth and slots are then used to generate an overall count. This count enables the encoder to track the motion of the shaft and provide information such as speed, position and direction.
