The AN5272 is a high-performance Audio Power Amplifier manufactured by On Semiconductor. It is designed for use in a wide range of audio power amplifier applications such as general audio PA amplifiers, high-power car audio amplifiers, and various PA speakers. This Audio Power Amplifier is capable of delivering power up to 2.2 W into 4 Ω loads and up to 1.2 W into 8 Ω loads. It contains two separate power supply inputs of 20V and 5V and features a wide gain range of 10 dB to 45 dB depending on the user’s application.
The AN5272 features several important pins that help in its operation. ThePower Enable (EN) pin is used to enable or disable the amplifier power. TheGain pin allows the user to set the voltage gain while the Bias Adjust (BIAS)pin lets the user control the bias current of the amplifier. The OutputStability Enable (OSEN) pin is used to enable or disable the outputstability of the amplifier. Finally, the Output Sensing (OS) pin allows theuser to monitor the output voltage and current.
The AN5272 is based on a differential amplifier topology. The output stage is comprised of two differential transistor pairs. The two transistors of each pair are driven in opposite directions to achieve a balanced output signal. This differential output reduces the crossover distortion and protects thetransistors from overloading due to a single high-power signal.
