Working principle
This device uses a PMOS to form a feedback loop to regulate the output voltage. The PMOS is connected to the input voltage, output voltage, and feedback input such that the output voltage is determined by the voltage reference. When an external load is placed on the regulator, the output voltage will drop. As the output voltage approaches the setpoint, the PMOS increases the gate voltage, which in turn increases the current flowing through the output. This process is repeated until the output voltage reaches or exceeds the setpoint.
The AP2112K-2.5TRG1 also includes protection circuitry to prevent damage to the device during short-circuiting, overloads, and overvoltage conditions. The current limit circuit regulates the maximum amount of current that can flow through the device and has an adjustable threshold of up to 1A.
