Working Principle

The AP2122AK-3.3TRE1 is an adjustable linear regulator made up of three functional blocks. The first block is the voltage reference, which is the source of the reference voltage for the regulator. The second block is the error amplifier, which compares the output voltage of the regulator to the reference voltage, and produces an output current to make the output voltage converging to the reference voltage. The third block is the output stage, which is composed of an output voltage buffer and a final drive transistor. The buffer ensures the accuracy of the output voltage. The final drive transistor realizes the current limit protection of the whole device.

When the input voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the error amplifier will produce a driving signal, which would be passed to the output stage to drive the output voltage. The output stage drives the output voltage to the required regulated voltage, and then the output voltage will stay stable. The voltage reference limits the output voltage within the range of 2.5-3.3V. If the input voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the error amplifier and the output stage will stop operating.
