Bridge rectifiers are integral components in many electronics projects and have become a mainstay in the modern industry. As such, their applications and principles of operation need to be thoroughly understood in order to wisely specify and correctly implement them in electronic systems. An idealized representation of a bridge rectifier is shown in the figure below and is termed a diode bridge. The diode bridge can be used to convert AC (Alternating Current) voltage inputs into a corresponding DC (Direct Current) voltage output.
The APTDF100H60G is an ideal bridge rectifier designed for a variety of applications. This current then flows through the load and into the negative terminal, while the current in the other two diodes is blocked. At the end of the half-cycle, when the signals are reversed the diodes will reverse direction.
During the second half-cycle, when the peak of the negative half-cycle signal is present at the anode of Diode #2 and the peak of the positive half-cycle signal is present at the anode of Diode #4, once again both diodes will conduct, allowing the current to flow. This current again flows through the load and into the negative terminal while the other two diodes block the current. At the end of the half-cycle, the signals are again reversed and the diodes will reverse direction.
Due to this action, the bridge rectifier converts the incoming AC voltage into a corresponding DC voltage, with the only difference being that the polarity of the DC output voltage is reversed when compared with the polarity of the input voltage. This is the main working principle of a bridge rectifier.
The primary application of the APTDF100H60G is in power supply rectification, providing the required DC voltage from an AC input power source.
