LED’s, or Light Emitting Diodes, are two-lead semiconductor light sources that produce visible light when electric current is applied. When current is applied to a LED, electrons are injected into a semiconductor material and recombine with holes and produce light. The color of the emitted light is determined by the material and the amount of recombination. In the case of the APTD1608LQBC/D, the LEDs are made up of three components – a substrate, an emitter and a reflector. The substrate acts as the base to which the other two components attach. The emitter is a phosphor material which converts the energy from the current into light.
