Introduction

The AQY280EH Solid State Relays (SSRs) offer a wide application field with many advantages over traditional mechanical relays. As an energy-efficient alternative, they provide fast, repetitive and precise switching operations, which can control a variety of high power loads, including motor starters, light dimmers, pumps and compressors, as well as industrial heating and cooling systems. Overview

AQY280EH SSRs are designed to switch large amounts of power, usually more than 280A and up to 400A. Their application field encompasses most electrical equipment, such as motor starters, pumps, light dimmers, compressors, and industrial heating and cooling systems. AQY280EH SSRs are designed for four-terminal detection with zero cross. This means they don’t require special protection circuits and can withstand sustained overloads of up to five times their rated current.

Technical Characteristics

AQY280EH SSRs provide a great number of technical advantages compared to traditional mechanical relay systems. Thanks to the zero cross-detection design, the resistance is extremely low, reducing power losses and improving efficiency, while the reverse current blocking capability is very good. The high resistance and reverse current blocking capabilities allow the AQY280EH to handle large amounts of power efficiently and reliably, especially when compared to mechanical relays.AQY280EH SSRs also provide high switching frequency, at up to 120Hz. This high switching frequency ensures that the required current is quickly started or stopped, while the current remaining on the load connected to the SSR is kept to a minimum, helping to reduce power losses. With the ability to switch power in a variety of loads, the AQY280EH is a versatile SSR for a wide range of applications.

Operating Principle

AQY280EH SSRs use a circuit comprising of two thyristors – or two SCRs (silicon-controlled rectifiers) – to control high power loads. When an electric current passes through the control terminal of the SSR it causes a voltage to be created in the base electrode of the thyristors – or SCR – turning the thyristors on. Once the thyristors are turned on, the two terminals connected to the thyristors are then able to switch large amounts of power.When the electric current is turned off, the SSR will automatically maintain its switching state, as long as the load current is below its maximum. If the load current exceeds the maximum, the SSR will switch off, disconnecting the power supply from the load. To reset the SSR, just turn off the electric current and it will automatically reset itself.
